On Sunday 11th November the Inter-Area Championships will take place at the Milton Keynes Bowl. The Wessex region is sending a strong team and will be hoping to finish on the podium, so good luck to all who are representing the region on Sunday. Helpers Required for National Trophy

As you are aware we are again promoting a Round of the Cyclo Cross National Trophy Series on Sunday 18th November 2012, and just about everything is now in place for another successful event. The one thing we have left to do is gather up all the volunteers for course building on the Saturday and Marshalling on the Sunday, I am looking for about 8 Course Builders and 20 Marshalls. The History of the Bill Higson Memorial Races

Bill Higson was a well-liked and enthusiastic member of Reading Wheelers Cycling Club. The Son of Wheelers chairman Stan Higson (who led the club through to 1974 when it amalgamated to become Reading Cycling Club) Bill was a good all-rounder with success on both road and track including wins in the `Presidents 50` (1960 & `61) He always enjoyed the club Cyclo –Cross, called a `scramble` in those days, and usually ended up in the pond at Burgfield Common, complete with bike, for a post-race `dip`! Inter-Area Championships

Inter-Area Championships It’s early October and that can only mean one thing, time to think about Inter Area Team Champs. They are to be held at Milton Keynes Bowl, Milton Keynes on Sunday 11th November. There are separate races for Youth, Vets, Women and a joint Senior/Junior one. We are interested in putting in teams from Wessex in as many of the categories as we can if you are interested let me know, we need at least 4 riders for each race with the best 3 counting for the team prize. Salisbury Saxon CX Sportif

The weekend of 10th/11th November doesn’t have a Wessex League race on the calendar as the weekend is reserved for the Inter-Area Championships at Milton Keynes. On Sunday 11th November CX Sportif are organising an off-road sportif using roads, trails and byways around Salisbury.  Various routes are on offer 80km, 60km and 40km. For those not riding the Inter-Area Championships but looking for a local race or event this cyclo-cross orientated sportif may be an interesting option. GWR Team will be again staging their evening floodlit cyclo-cross race series at the Supermarine Club in Swindon. Cotswold Veldrijden Team Launch

A new bicycle racing club “Cotswold Veldrijden” has been started covering the Gloucestershire and Wiltshire area, team members will concentrate on cyclocross racing in the Wessex and National League series but as cyclocross is seasonal, riders will also compete in road and circuit racing, time trials and mountain bike events. (Veldrijden being the Flemish word for cyclocross).
