The League Rules and Regulations are available for download in pdf format here: Rules & Regulations 2024/25 revision 16
This also includes details of the League prizes which are awarded at the end of the season.
The Wessex League also publishes a code of conduct which we expect all participants, spectators, supporters and parents to abide by. Please take a moment to read this.
The Wessex League is run under British Cycling Rules so also read the BC rule book for Cyclo-Cross and also the Road rule book. These rule books can be downloaded from the British Cycling Website HERE.
Note that some rules only apply to higher level races such as National Series, National Championships and International events. Some rules are more relaxed for local league events, e.g. Mountain Bikes are allowed in local races, but not in National events.
Wessex League Gridding
From the 2024/25 season the league will be using a new method for generating the grids for each race. In previous years Ian McDonald spent many hours gridding riders to ensure everyone was in the correct order but with the increasing number of riders and races the task became unmanageable for one person.
For the new season the League will be using software developed by the London & South East CX League. We tested the software last season in parallel with Ian and both grids were very similar, so we expect a consistent transition.
Why do we grid?
To facilitate a safe release at the start or the race, the fastest riders are placed at the start of the grid.
How do we grid?
We look at the best 3 results from your last 5 races and calculate your average. This method takes into account your form changing throughout the season while ignoring poor results due to mechanicals etc. We use results based on the race position rather than your category position where races are combined (e.g. Open Junior & V40 race).
At the start of the season results from last season will be included. If you have moved up an age category an allowance will be factored into your results for your first race. Subsequent races will only use the results from your new category.
Visiting Riders
Non-league riders will be gridded according to similar results found on the British Cycling website or from other league results if they are available. If your name/club don’t match with any available results you’ll be placed at the back of the grid.
Queries
If you think you have been gridded incorrectly or have any other questions on this you can talk to the commissaires (although they are generally quite busy on race day!) or contact info@wessexcyclocross.co.uk
