Following the recent AGM there was much discussion over various ideas to take the Wessex League forward. Ian Macdonald has provided a summary of the outcomes for the proposals at the AGM. PROPOSALS: (1) We propose that the Wessex Prize Fund be increased to the Prize levels as indicated on the attached document. Reason – We awarded £1,252.00 in Prize Money for the 2012/13 Season, and in the season our accounts have shown a surplus of approximately £900, therefore we can increase the Prize Fund by the £456.00 as detailed. It is with sadness to have to report that we have recently lost one of our older stalwarts of the Wessex Cyclo-Cross scene. Gordon MacDonald passed away on 22nd March after a short illness, he was 80. Those new to Cross in last few seasons wouldn’t have come across Gordon as he hasn’t been too active on Wessex races for a few years, but before that he was involved in everything that helped build our league into a nice, friendly popular league. The Wessex Cyclo-Cross League Annual General Meeting will be held on Friday 5th April 2013, 7:30pm. Click HERE for the agenda and HERE for the AGM meeting minutes from 2012. The venue is the 5th New Forest Testwood Scout HQ, Blackwater Drive, Calmore, Southampton, SO40 2QJ. South of England Championships Sunday 9th December This coming Sunday see’s the South of England Championships at Basingstoke in Hampshire. The races will be held by kind permission of Basingstoke council and held at the War Memorial Park in the town centre. The park has two large playing fields and a small wooded area to negotiate; there is also a small sharp climb and a narrow knife edge single track on each lap. On Sunday 30th December the Salisbury Plain Area Mountain Bikers (SPAM) will again be putting on the popular Winter Challenge. Starting from Erlestoke near Devizes the ride uses the hard pack trails over Salisbury Plain. The route is not too technical so can be ridden on a cyclo-cross bike. Route options include 50km, 35km or 25km. This event normally attracts a large entry and is a fun non-competitive event for the winter holiday week.
