Fareham Wheelers Race News

The final round of the Wessex League will be promoted by Fareham Wheelers on Sunday 5th January 2014.  This is a new event  on the calendar and race organiser Phillip Chinn and his team are working hard in collaboration with the venue owners the YMCA. Geoff Shergold

It is with deep sadness that the Wessex Cyclo-Cross League has learned of the death of long-standing British Cycling mechanic Geoff Shergold, from Southampton, at the age of 64.   Geoff died on Saturday 16 November after a short illness. Geoff was chairman of the Wessex Cyclo-Cross Association and a stalwart of the cyclo-cross scene in the South of England for over 40 years. A useful cyclo-cross rider, In 1976 he gained selection to the British team contesting that year’s World Cyclo-Cross Championships in the possibly unique position of “travelling reserve and mechanic”. Isle of Wight Event next season

For next season we have had an offer to put on aWessex League event on the Isle of Wight, hopefully this will be early season. Before the organising team start work etc they would like to see how many of you would be willing to travel over. They have already asked this question on the Wessex Facebook and have had a positive reply. Some people have expressed a preference for the event to be on a Saturday so they can make a weekend of it and do a ride or just holiday type things on the Sunday. Inter-Area Championships

Inter-Area Championships Message from Ian MacDonald. It’s mid October and that can only mean one thing, time to think about Inter Area Team Champs. They are to be held at Middlesbrough Sunday 10th November. There are separate races for Youth, Vets, Women and a joint Senior/Junior one. Helpers wanted for National Trophy

The second round of the National Trophy Series will be at the Southampton Sports Centre on the 3rd November 2013 and is promoted by Kerie Wallace and the Wessex Cyclo-Cross League.
