The final round of the Wessex League will be promoted by Fareham Wheelers on Sunday 5th January 2014. This is a new event on the calendar and race organiser Phillip Chinn and his team are working hard in collaboration with the venue owners the YMCA.
Here is a report on progress from Phillip ;
Only a few days to go until the very first Fareham Wheelers cross. I think it might be a tad muddy ??? Just a few days left to enter on line, i’ve had a rush of entries over the last few days but still plenty of space left. there may have to be a slight change to car parking arrangements but that will just mean a walk of a few hundred meters as opposed to parking right next to the course. hope you all can make it so i can convince both my club and the YMCA that its a great thing to do twice next season.
The YMCA’s Fairthorne Manor at Botley will host the event. We can’t praise the YMCA and Steve Scott the family park manager enough, he is certainly a yes man, there’s never any problem with anything that needs to be done on site and is always offering help. There has been some hard graft getting the site ready for this and hopefully future races. We believe there could be many possibilities with the venue. And both the YMCA and Fareham Wheelers are hoping for a good turn out to help ensure future races can be staged.
The YMCA are hoping to develop the site further by providing a permanent MTB cross country track around the site, to further enhance the fantastic facilities they already have for families and kids, not just through the summer months but all year round.
So if you fancy getting a good start to the year, what could be better than a cross to kick it off. We hope to see you all there on the 5th and if it goes well a couple of more times next season.
Steve and his team are ready to provide hot food, cake, tea and coffee and even a beer if you fancy it !!
