Following and night of very heavy rain the course which was pan flat around a couple of football pitches and a small wooded copse was waterlogged. The course soon cut up badly during the earlier races as the rain continued but it did ease a little for the start of the senior race. It was very cold which didn’t help riders and the added ditch with six inches of running water was compounded their misery on each lap. Report Rnd 7, STFC RAL Harwell, 28th Oct 2012

Round seven of the league saw the riders and supporters at the Rutherford Appleton Labs on the side of the hill side surrounding the establishment, with the event promoted by Swindon Road Club. After the overnight wind and rain the chalky ground was firm and very fast and despite a small shower during the youth race the top surface wasn’t too slippery, and it was chilly on the exposed hill side. Andy Hargroves from Hargroves Cycles eased to a comfortable win on a very muddy and tricky course from Michael Cotty (Wheelbase/Cannondale) by over 30secs. The two riders had eased away from the rest of the field after one lap and the two extended their lead throughout the race. After a race long tussle John Whittington (CNP Obrea) piped Paul Lloyd (Ride on Air) by a couple of seconds at the Supermarine Rugby club venue in Swindon. Once the race got underway these two riders along with Ian Legg (Primera/ Specialized) eased away from the rest of the chasing bunch. Michael Cotty (Wheelbase / Cannondale) took the honours at the new event held on the old golf course in Eastleigh in Hampshire. Michael set a fast pace at the start and soon had a clear minute lead over new team mate Richard Phillips-Scofield. A lovely autumnal morning greeted the riders and supporters as they arrived at the new venue and they were treated to some fast exciting races throughout the groups.  Luke Gray (Trek Cross Collective) went one better than last week and won round two at the very wet and slippery cross race held in Swindon. Luke was in a group that got away and the start and these five stayed away for much of the race before the conditions decided the outcome. One the first lap it was Jody Crawforth and teammate Andy Hargroves (Hargroves Cycles) along with Michael Cotty (Wheelbase Cannondale), Ben Sumner (Beeline Cycles), Crispin Doyle (Hargroves Cycles) and Will Bjergfelt (Cycle Premier Kovert) that started to ease away. Report Round 1, Oxonian CC, 15th Sept 2012

  Ben Sumner (Beeline Cycles) won the first round of the Wessex League at Oxonian’s event at Cowley to the west of Oxford. Ben out sprinted Luke Gray (Trek Cross Collective) by a second on the line to win the league opener. The event was held within the ground of the Oxford Spires Academy on terraced football pitches which provided the climbs and a very narrow technical wooded section to the north of the school.
