A return to the YMCA site just outside Southampton was today’s venue and promoted by Fareham Wheelers. The second visit to the venue following a successful race back in October saw the course designer Phill Chinn able to tweak some parts. The finish line was moved and an inclusion of some steps made the race a hit with riders. The overnight rain helped to soften the grass and the early morning fog made the top surface slippery.

Race Report by Graham Robins
Adrian Lansley (PedalOn) made it a perfect eight wins from his eight starts this season. Taking the lead from team mate Sam Allen at the half distance the Basingstoke based rider never looked back and won with a margin of just over a minute from Michael Cotty (Col Collective) with Allen coming in third.
The senior race got underway with the sun slipping away but at least the fog had gone away. Sam Allen (PedalOn) made the best of the early part of the lap and led the field up the incline and into the infield before turning out towards the steps and planks before riders headed into the woods for a short section before returning to the populated infield again to complete the lap.
In the first couple of laps Allen and Lansley could not be separated as the rode together whilst Cotty was riding well and despite the two PedalOn riders pulling out a gap of 13secs he managed to keep the two within sight. Kean Wytrykowski (PedalOn) was running fourth followed by Tom Budden (Sotonia CC)
At the mid race distance Lansley made his move quickly pulling out time on Allen, whilst Cotty was closing in on Allen and soon he had passed the Whitchurch rider but was unable in the closing stages to catch Lansley. The remainder of the race did not see any change in positions within the top ten and Lansley was able to control his efforts and win by 1min 8secs at the chequered flag
In the combined vet40+ and junior race it was Oxford City RC rider Edward Gronbech who led the race from start to finish winning the junior category whilst Graham Rogerson (Cotswold Veldrijden) won the vet 40+ races. Following Rogerson was William McDonald (Take3 Tri) and Nick Onslow (PedalOn).
The vet50+ race saw Tim Costello (GS Vecchi) retuning to winning ways as he led the race for its entirety from Gary Barlow (Reading CC), with Kevin Holloway (GS Vecchi) taking the third spot on the podium.
In the women’s race it was the North Hants RC pairing of Sarah Barber and Susan Parker who took early control of the race and the two Basingstoke based riders were never challenged with Barber claiming the win. Claire Smith (Cotswold Veldrijden) was once again the first vet women with Ella Freeman (Hargroves Montezumas) winning the junior section.
